MEET OUR TEAM
C. J. May was born in Pikeville, KY and is a graduate of Pikeville College with a BS in Business Administration. He began his career in the commercial real estate business in 1978. Mr. May spent 12 years working with national real estate firms in the development of numerous community and regional retail and mixed use projects throughout the south east. C.J. and his associates have worked in various sized markets across the USA, from California to New York, assisting their clients in market research, site selection, land acquisition, pre-development and development. Much of the last 30 years has been spent assisting Lowe’s Home Center with its expansion program. Mr. May has been involved in the placement of over 100 Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores all across the country. For the past 35 years, May Commercial Group has assisted businesses in identifying opportunities for growth by providing a wide range of services, including market delineation, expansion and storing strategies, site acquisition, contract negotiations, and construction management. A “feet on the ground” approach, combined with the latest market research, has helped their clients get out in front of the competition to find the best locations and get the deal done fast, and avoid the costly mistake of opening underperforming stores.
Phil Davis began his career in Real Estate Development in 1987 having spent the previous 9 years in the construction industry. While working as the Director of Construction and Coordination for a Tennessee based developer Phil managed and supervised new commercial developments including the Richmond Mall, in Richmond, KY, the Stones River Mall in Murfreesboro, TN, Towne Square Shopping Center and Hunting Hills Plaza in Roanoke, VA, The Market Place in Christiansburg, Virginia, Embassy Crossings a mixed use development in New Port Richey, Florida, Fowler Square in Tampa, Florida, Pensacola Square in Pensacola, Florida and Battlefield Plaza in Springfield, Missouri. Upon his return to Kentucky, Phil managed the development of a large shopping center in eastern Kentucky which included Lowe’s, Winn-Dixie, Goody’s and Heilig-Meyers. In 1994 thru early 1995 Phil was project manager on three developments for the US Army Corp of Engineers including the Administration Building and Locomotive Repair Building at the Bluegrass Army Depot and the Administration Building at the Laurel River Dam. Phil came to May Commercial Group in 1995 where he has worked with Mr. May in the placement of nearly 100 Lowe’s Home Improvement stores from California to New York. While at May Commercial Group Phil has worked with developers and tenants such as Wal-Mart, Lowe’s, Cracker Barrel, Staples, Office Depot, Kohl’s, Steak n Shake, National Business College, Lifestyle Communities, KFC, Peoples Exchange Bank, Arby’s, Murphy Oil and Schlotzsky’s Deli among others. Phil has a wide array of responsibilities at MCG which include, overseeing due diligence activities, managing properties, management of new development and negotiating documents. Phil is a licensed KY real estate broker.
BRENDA J. LEGG
Brenda J Legg has more than 20 years of experience in commercial real estate. She previously served as Director of the Southeast Division for a Real Estate Investment Trust with responsibilities for overseeing the leasing and management of a large portfolio of properties containing more than 1,500,000 square feet with an annual income of more than $10,000,000. During her career she has sold, leased and managed and assisted in the redevelopment of properties in Alabama, Texas, West Virginia, Virginia, Oklahoma, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Kentucky. Past Deals include CVS, Publix, Borders Books, Kmart, Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s, Arby’s, Talbots, Jos A Banks, Staples, Bed Bath & Beyond, Fed Ex Kinko’s, Chico’s, Ann Taylor, Fresh Market, Albertson’s, Radio Shack, Burlington Coat Factory, Cato, Simply Fashions, BB&T, Wachovia, Sun Trust, and many other national and regional companies.
Jake joined the company in January of 2021 and is our in-house counsel. After graduating from the University of Kentucky College of Law, Jake obtained his LL.M. in Real Property Development from the University of Miami in Miami, Florida, where he began his legal career. In his private practice, Jake represented commercial, multifamily and industrial real estate developers across the country for both national and international law firms. Jake's worked with real estate companies of all sizes, from small single asset owners to publicly traded REITs. In his role as in-house counsel, Jake is able to cut the time and expense of utilizing outside counsel for many of our core functions, resulting in cost and time savings for our tenant and owner partners.
Davis Peffer is a Kentucky native and attended Lexington Catholic High School and Western Kentucky University. He has resided in multiple areas of Kentucky giving him a deep appreciation of the appeal and benefits of the various quaint, small towns and larger cities across Kentucky. He has also owned and operated businesses giving him an understanding of the impact of real estate decisions on business success.
Davis focuses on commercial, retail and industrial real estate matters for his clients. He assists and advises owners in maximizing value in selling or leasing property. Additionally, he assists and advises potential buyers and tenants in identifying and optimizing transactions in purchasing or leasing property.
In his spare time, Davis is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys boating and water skiing. As a real estate professional, he recognizes and values the trust his clients place in him and he strives every day to exceed those expectations.
